| Sporting such team names as Rhythm ‘N’ Que and All Hogs Go to Heaven, some 20 teams will fill the air with the distinctive smoke of barbeque in Lancaster this Fall, competing for the 2009 Kansas City Barbeque Society Team of the Year Awards. Hosted by The Lancaster and Rosamond Chambers of Commerce, this special event offers a festival atmosphere with a variety of activities for people of all ages to enjoy.
Thousands of dollars in prize money will attract BBQ cooks from across the state and beyond. The barbeque competition will feature pork ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket and chicken. Judging the barbeque will be experienced judges who are members of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). The judging is based on presentation and taste. Taste, of course, varies depending on the way the meat is cooked and the sauce used. In addition, the People’s Choice Contest will allow attendees to taste and vote their favorite barbeque between 11:30a.m. - 2:00p.m. or until the meat is gone.
The other activities taking place will be the Semi-Annual Flea Market, a Backyard Barbeque contest and the semi-annual Show ‘N Shine Car and Motorcycle show. Alexander Longrifle will be front and center with his unique brand of entertainment. And, what would a festival be without a variety of food booths.
The Backyard Barbeque will feature local organizations or companies competing for cash prizes and the bragging rights for the best area BBQ. The Backyard Teams will prepare Pork Ribs and Chicken and have the opportunity to win $100 in each category. Local celebrities, under the supervision of the KCBS Judging Supervisor, will judge the efforts of the Backyard teams. The BBQ contest awards will be presented by the sponsors beginning at 3:30p.m. for both the amateur and professional teams.
Classic car shows are always a lot of fun, giving the attendees the chance to see an exciting selection of rare and collectible vehicles while enjoying the sounds from the D.J. spinning music from each era. The judging process is an excellent way for the car owners to gain valuable tips and direction in improving their vehicles.
The day kicks off at 7:00 a.m. for early bird flea market bargain hunters. The entry fee is $8.00 until 8:59 a.m., when the $6.00 regular price tickets go on sale at 9:00 a.m. Children 9 and under enjoy free admission. Tickets for the 2 oz. People’s Choice samples will be $2.00 and will be available in the area where the cooks are set-up. |
